The Eye of Providence, also known as the all-seeing eye, is the symbol of a single eye encompassed by a triangle. Its origins can be traced back to ancient Egypt and the Eye of Horus, and it usually holds a religious significance.
In Buddhism, Buddha is often called the “Eye of the World.” In Hinduism, it is known as the “third eye” of Lord Shiva. And in Christianity, the triangle surrounding the eye is said to represent the Holy Trinity.
It is symbolic to greater knowledge, transcending the physical and entering a higher state of perception.
The Eye of Providence is also a very important freemasonry symbol that typically has a semi-circular glory under the eye and may not always be enclosed in a triangle. They refer to the all-powerful God as the ‘Grand Architect of the Universe’ and the symbol is used to remind every Mason to be mindful of his thoughts as well as deeds that are being observed by God at all times.
