The Story of Pamela

My great aunt Carmen was born in a different era, but she lived to be a significant influence in my life.

Born in New York City, attending Nightingale, and graduating from Bryn Mawr in 1934, she was raised in a tiny society of privilege, but always cut her own path.

Her ideas for daily life: equality for women, daily exercise, education, and an intimate relationship with nature, even though they are commonplace today, were way ahead of her time.  I still find her rules for living refreshingly modern.

Carmen moved to Key Biscayne in 1986, and lived 3 blocks away from me for the rest of her life.  Even as she approached 100, she continued her daily walks around the island.  They appeared out of place then, but the white cotton gloves and broad hats she wore to protect her fair skin now seem perfect.

In Spanish we call this style of hat a Pamela, a forgotten detail of the elegant garden parties of the last century.  I hope this ring helps us remember the beauty we have lost.

My Favorite Parts of this Ring

I love the way this ring feels when you slide it on your finger.  It is a sensual experience that is worth closing your eyes for, and there is nothing better than looking down and seeing this beauty on your hand.

With a raised and rhythmic setting, the primary faceted stone has a closed back, and a richness that feels very elegant.  I stole the nub details from my Sea Urchin Ring for the face, and lined the edges with two subtle but framing sets of alternating stones.

This ring is complex, and I am still getting to know it.  I am pretty sure you will enjoy getting to know it too.
